Waiting

He sits outside in the waiting room The air around is as still as a tomb And he waits for what the doctor will say It was such a sudden fall from the chair But it felt like time slowed down right there And he thought of all the things he should have said and done before it happened Been three years since he left for the war And now she stands on the wind-battered shore Hoping to catch a glimpse of what she hopes will bring him home And as the rain begins to fall She wonders if it's worth waiting at all Or what if the worth comes from the waiting itself?
