I was about 6 when it happened to me I was chasing a ball that bounced off a tree I fell through a fence, reaching for the prize I ended up broken and sad in my eyes Oh, why does life have to be so hard It'll kick you out of your own backyard It'll make you say, I'm out of here man And it'll bring you back to do it again Oh, why does life have to be so hard It'll kick out your teeth and take back your car It'll make you ask how you got this far Oh, why does life have to be so hard I was about 10 when my dad left our home He never came back; he went on the roam My mother said, Sorry Son, I gave him time He spent all our money on fillies and wine I was about 12 when Mom sent me away She could not afford me was what she would say I was heartbroken; I no longer felt whole A piece of me died, a big piece of my soul
