Agape

I am a traveling troubadour. No direction But I keep trekking; poetry in motion - manifested The west wind directs my sanpan as it drifts Across yellow waters This river moves like a serpent through majestic mountains Peaks reach high to a sky - densely clouded I tilt my sedge hat and look into the distance Connect with a dragon that offers her assistance She dips to the surface of the river and glides I leap from my boat to her back and take flight She takes me to a valley lined with an infinity Of bamboo stalks, stones adorned with calligraphy An energy permeates the air around me Whirlwinds lift fallen leaves by the thousands I make out a figure in the midst of the wind A venerable master mysterious as Yin With a Yang-white beard he puts words on the breeze That flow around me just like the elevated leaves 'I know what you are searching for and you do too It's at the center of your being it's what makes you - you It makes the sun shine and clouds rain The life force that flows through eternity's veins It's the way. Light and shadow as one The past and the future, it's the one and the none The Celestial Masters tapped into this chi And with eyes that look beyond it is not hard to see Different cultures, different times, different words for above But The Way is Agape - The Immortal Love Like an elephant, I migrate continuously Searching for the secrets to cease my mind's suffering The sun rises high into a sky painted purple I am lost in a dense jungle, walking in circles Thoughts fill my journals - Colorful loose leaves Like croton foliage. This forest - it moves me Veins crawl through the air as Banyan branches Jewels of Opar, Lilies, and Night Jasmine The canopy is breached by soft beams alighting Striped orange coats of tigers in the ivy The Padmasana Sage - he sits in luminescence And looks up with three eyes that pierce through my essence Snail-coiled bun, pure violet lotus aura He says, 'Come and take my hand, weary explorer' I reach out to the vitarka mudra Cosmic contact - visions of sutras Looping of souls through galaxies, dimensions Detached from the suffering, I'm but an apparition Star dust in a cycle like the changing of seasons He says, 'The spiritual lessons are the reason More experience - more compassion and empathy More life, more death - more equanimity That's your mission, see - Mindfulness and meditation Will reveal the true nature of this game that you're playing An infinity path, Four truths of existence The greatest escape, the deepest of wisdom Different cultures, different times, different words for above But Nirvana is Agape; The Enlightened Love' Another day, another landscape I travel on The vagabond looking for Zion, living in Babylon Where sandstorms rage and the sun beats down on me A radiant lion in the clouds speaks down to me 'Through all the transcriptions, my words have been corrupted Honestly, a lot of that book is now destructive Eternal damnation - it never could never coexist With unconditional love; They're literally opposites And the ultimatum for eternity is simply empty Blind faith's a meaningless test - it's not really Even virtuous, inherently. So eat from The Tree If we all had the knowledge, we might all finally see That it's not about faith, it's only about love Stop the separation, it's only about love The god you made man is an ineffable energy That lives within us and the universe in synergy It has no ego - It doesn't demand worship, illicit fear of torture, reward crusading warships Or those fortunate to be born into a world that has The cultural historics of the one true lord, out of thousands Ditch the book - it's outdated But if you need the old words, here's a metaphor to take from it - If you stray from love; if you stray from The Way Life will feel like Samsara Hell for you every day The soul needs it.
