Thorns in my side, thorns in my flesh Praying asking God, yo when can I rest? I think God is puttin' me thru a test Feelin' like I’m failin' but doing my best So I send one up to God and I pray LORD please will you take this thorn away But He said my grace sufficient homie be dependent But God do you even listen? Or am I trippin? Cuz it feel like I’ve been single for a minute Went through a break up and for a while I lamented And by the grace of God I found healing But recently these desires inside been so intense & vicious Cuz my body be lustin', its hard to trust Him Cuz it seems my sex drive ain’t got a clutch shift Maybe I’m just rushin', but Imma keep it real God Cuz honestly I don’t think you just how I feel God Like ain’t it you who gave me these desires? And ain’t this how I’m wired? You said a wife’s a good thing, and ain’t you the supplier? I know your plans are higher, but LORD why am I strugglin? Cuz singleness feels less like a gift and more like suffering Sometimes I feel trapped in this body death Temptation tryna flex Daily it be making me stress Desires urging me to gratify these burnin needs So will you hurry please or work in me Because this daily struggle hurtin' me These trials and thorns won’t leave my side I doubt I’ll make it through the night if you don’t help me I’m a wandering soul in need of the hope That saved me with grace to start making me whole Through hills and valleys he’s still in control Making more like him Son be patient, I know that you’re anxiously waiting But lean on me as you’re fighting through these temptations Jesus understands your struggles cuz He too was tempted So draw near to me for mercy cuz my grace is endless Son know I’m for your joy and your flourishing My discipline should be affirming not discouraging I want whats best for you, I want rest for you Gave up my Son, so there ain’t nothing that I’ve kept from you I won't protect from anything that makes you like Christ Singleness, a break up, or even a crisis of life Thorns create dependence And yes my grace sufficient You asked me if I listen But do you even listen? Cuz it ain’t me that’s tempting you, thats your own sinfulness I don’t tempt with evil and with evil I ain’t tempted with My thoughts are higher than yours because our ways different Cuz if you knew what I knew, then you would pray different These trials and thorns won’t leave my side I doubt I’ll make it through the night if you don’t help me I’m a wandering soul in need of the hope That saved me with grace to start making me whole Through hills and valleys he’s still in control Making more like him God uses our trials to make us like Jesus And strips away all our idols to show much we need Him The LORD ain’t content with second place And anything that competes for your worship He strips away But if all our joy is in Him then its a grace Cuz our trials reveal where God has been replaced It shows us what we truly hope in, what's our true devotion And with it’s full effect it produces wholeness How do we have joy in the midst of the struggle?
