Tommy Boy

Born in the daytime come alive in the night The story starts in August out of sight out of mind No thoughts of growing up no thoughts of fighting time While Tommy slowed it down he took a puff and got high And I met him back in school a satirical best friend He would always chase the girls nicknamed the king of west end We rocked the same style shopped Thrift stores and all Envisioned surfing SoCal grew our hair out long And it seemed that nothing ever could distract us form the day But it never stopped his mom from ringing up his phone to say Tommy boy you better smarten up You got too much potential to be giving up But he's just a kid who's only seen the streets of his hometown So the idea to dream was big enough to get him down He refused to follow the trail like the ones who did before him So blind to see these dreams could star in California So we practiced in my basement and went banging on the drums Layered all the tracks and heard it back through the subs Played it for our friends everybody bobbed their heads House parties were our kingdom till the clubs became a trend Such is so is life when you're growing up so fast You're trying to take it in before the cycle starts to crash Tommy boy you better smarten up You'll never find those dreams in the back of the club What once served as a drug is now not even enough He went searching for his happiness and said its in love When he came up empty handed he would slip into sorrow A man of the moment became a man of tomorrow And what about the music it seems we have taken a break But you gotta stay focused that's how you make it today Mediocrity became more favourable than fame It was the creaking cry of adulthood that scared him straight Now he's sleeping on ambition works the 9-5 Thinking back on days when he could have changed his life Tells the story to his kids and his wife But Tommy boy I hope you're doing alright You gotta leave your hometown before it consumes you
