In English auxiliaries They move up from V to T To get tense It's just what makes sense Main verbs are not the same In the VP they remain forever And then tense lowers And then from T to C You move your modals and your auxiliaries If you're asking a question And use do-support To ask a question with a main verb Even when it hurts Head movement Head movement In English subject DPs Move up to Spec of TP That's why They appear up high We call that overt movement Because it happens before spellout In the Y layout But sometimes quantifiers Have to move to a position that's much higher But we don't pronounce it like that Instead the movement happens silently after spellout In the Logical Form Covert movement Covert movement
