I'm on a river in Virginia, headed down to Tennessee Yeah I'm floating down the river, headed down to Tennessee How come all these, bad, bad things always happen to me Sometimes this old river, sometimes it ain't so clean It's pretty dirty, now Sometimes I float the river, and Lord, it ain't so clean But when they let loose of that Levee, it's the prettiest thing you've ever seen I used to float it down, all them bugbears and me If I weren't on the dock, Lord, it was the bugbears and me Used to jive on the river, but now I've got to let them be Gonna tell em all I got ever done a bit of wrong to me If they wanna float it down now, gonna be better off at sea Said I'm floating down the river, headed down to Tennessee But I won't get washed away now, river bank gonna set me free
