Midwestern Guilt

I've been told I'm doing better, who am I to disagree? Do I believe it? I don't know Spent most of my twenties putting holes in everything Now I'm older, but am I wiser? Helicopter children might never get it right Do you see it? I don't know But now I'm almost forty, I patched most of those holes Still getting older, I suppose Got this midwestern guilt in me Got this midwestern guilt in me Could never break it, can't even shake it Jesus, he knows I've tried Had a dream that I was wealthy, it was the independent kind Sat on my couch the whole damn day I suppose it's not much different than what I'm doing now No constant worries was pretty great So I'm saving all my money, but it's just for nobody What if it all went wrong? So I'm sorry to all those children starving in other countries We didn't know existed before the internet Got this midwestern guilt in me Got this midwestern guilt in me Could never break it, can't even shake it Jesus, he knows I've tried
