Little Girl

There's a little girl sittin' by her mama's side Clinging to a memory, trying not to cry She's too scared to think about How tomorrow will play out Without her hero So she tries To understand the reason why And she flies To places where her pain can hide There's a teenage girl sittin' on a Sunday Pew Wondering why the answers Somehow don't ring true She tries to live so perfectly That no one can see her grief But she knows She knows The slightest crack and she slips below To places where she has no control And so she smiles and walks away There's an adult woman standing at her father's grave 20 years of holding back Are running down her face She wonders how it makes God feel When she shakes her fist at his will So she prays She prays That one day peace takes ahold And she can have a faith so bold She can say It is well, with my soul It is well....with my soul There's a little girl sittin' by her mama's side Clinging to a memory, trying not to cry
