RED
Red is the color she loved the most
To her little girl heart it meant beauty and brightness and hope
But some people told her it clashed with her hair
She should choose something else
There were plenty of other colors she could wear
Dance, she used to dance every day
She'd skip and she'd leap like a foal who's discovered his legs
But sometimes her long, lanky limbs would get wrapped up
And tangled inside themselves
There was always an audience when she fell
SO SHE WALKED SLOWLY AND NEVER DANCED
SHE SANG QUIETLY AND NO ONE EVER HEARD
SHE HEARD THEM AND SHE LISTENED WELL
AND FROM THAT TIME ON SAID HER FAVORITE COLOR WAS GREEN
(2ND- CONVINCED HERSELF, HER FAVORITE COLOR WAS GREEN)
Sing, she used to sing with all of her heart
And the songs that she sang held the music of mountains and stars
But some people told her her voice was too loud
She needed to learn to blend in
She spent her life trying to fit in
But forty years was too long to be confronted by
The color of roses
And scarlet poppies in bloom would catch at her heart
And songs like waves on the wind
Kept crashing in demanding their time to be told
And the shell she'd worn for so long finally crumbled apart
NOW SHE’S DANCING LIKE SHE’S NEVER DANCED
AND SHE SINGS OUT FOR ALL THE WORLD TO HEAR
SHE STILL HEARS THEM BUT SHE DOESN’T CARE
SHE SURROUNDS HERSELF, LAUGHS AND DROWNS HERSELF IN
RED
