Tamed/What Do You Know

It feels like it's been forever It hasn't been long at all And despite genuine efforts We have gotten nothing done The bolts have all gone rusty They came loose during the fall Now I cannot take them out Or tighten them at all We are running out of water Please accept the last of it I'd rather you survive And I die swallowing my spit "But sir, you are too hasty I have questions yet for you Can't you see that you have tamed me And our hope may yet be true?" I could kiss the clouds For bringing us shade Some respite from the heat This momentum shift seems Insurmountable Like quitting might be worth it now I carried your body For days and days I hoped to quench your thirst But for all the ground we covered The cause was all but lost You consistently insisted it was not Just when I could not stand Another moment more It appeared before us there With pulley, rope, and pail The way the water danced Was impossible to take for granted Where are you from? What do you know that I don't? Where did you learn it? And what is your heart made of To keep such perfect secrets hid?
