Happy For Us

I met my younger self Took her out to the tidal creek She was just thirteen I asked her what she thought of me As we rode in the canoe I begged her to tell me the truth "I'm happy for us This is not what I imagined But it's so much more So much more" I remember 8th grade We always kept our hair straight Afraid to show how wild our curls grow She asked if we're in love I hugged her and then I shrugged I told her to row softly though the willow I'm happy for us This is not what I remembered But it's so much more So much more I'm happy for us I may have strayed but now I found you You're always in me We're so happy
