I was a child You were a poet Both our ships were sinkin And we were tryin' like hell not to show it All the lights come up When the sun goes down Reel em in and then you push them all away Just to see who sticks around Stoic when it hurts Take your licks like a man Drink yourself to death Every chance you can Fallin' from the sky Like some old airplane wing Don't let 'em see you cry Distract 'em while you sing Flying like a bullet Toward every single danger Tempting fate to find you In the arms of a stranger When the parade marches out of town You're still lonely as a clown I was a child You were a poet
