la esencia nutshell of hip-hop (feat. sarah hobson) şarkı sözleri
Let's go back to 1973
The newly born genre of music that is so well loved is just getting its first breath of life
Now nearly 50 years old, hip hop has caused Death, Destruction, Connection, and Love
Now it's 1973, and record playing has been a thing for over 42 years
But no one at this point has thought of spinning a couple of records on twin turntables
Not until Jamaican-American Clive Campbell, better known as DJ Kool Herc, sprung on the scene and introduced spending the same record on twin turntables
He used to toggle between records to isolate and extend percussion breaks
This technique can provide a much more danceable and enjoyable experience
After DJ Kool Herc sprung on the scene, many more started to come around and got inspired by the DJ
One other pioneer of hip hop is a man who goes by Grandmaster Flash
He was a rapper and a DJ who knew how to turn the average turntable into a musical instrument
He considered DJ Kool Herc to be one of his heroes and was inspired by his work
Grandmaster Flash would go on to invent a few techniques for the turntable
Some of them were the backspin technique
punch phrasing
and scratching
which were all techniques used to stylize and spice up the music to keep it playing for however long it was needed
He would often work with other artists who helped kickstart hip hop, like Curtis Blow, Melly Mel, and Kid Creole
Later in life, he even worked with Flava Flav and DJ Tomek on a song that stayed in the Top 10 on German charts for 17 weeks
Many more artists sprung on the scene and created music that was hated in the public eye at the time
One particular group is N.W.A., a group of six artists, now some of the most recognizable names in the genre
Dr. J, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, MC Ren, DJ Yella, and the D.O.C
When Straight Outta Compton was released in 1988, the album spoke about police brutality and what it was like growing up in the streets of Compton
In a riot following the album's release, hundreds of people bought and destroyed the album in the streets
The riots caused the parental advisory sticker to be put on albums and songs that contain explicit lyrics
After N.W.A. disbanded in 1991, Eazy-E died and gave his record label to his wife
Dr. Dre left Eazy-E's Ruthless Records and Suge Knight's Death Row Records to start his own label, Aftermath
After leaving both record labels and making his own, he signed several well-known artists like Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar
Seven months after the creation of Aftermath Records, a rapper named Tupac Shakur, who was signed to Death Row Records, died in a Las Vegas shooting
Tupac was well-known for addressing social topics in his music, like life in Compton and how to support lower-income communities
