What It Means To Be

Been thinking about some of the things I was told when I was young Things like how to win the world, and understand And if I work real hard, I can get most everything that I want Things that measure what it means to be a man I was promised a dream of abundance and ease, all at my feet A future I didn't realize only included me But when I stopped to think about what that world would mean I found myself begging for grace down on my knees I wonder if I'm saying enough in the words of this song Or if the sentiment only justifies the end And even if I never truly know what is right or wrong To love and be loved is all I can comprehend I've been thinking about some of the things I was told when I was young Things like hot to cheat the world, or tip my hand And if I work at all, I'll be given most everything that I want And these things measure what it means to be a man
