My Own Guilt

Lamar! Every time my mind be thinking of you I start to think about the things we use to do And it hurts me bad, that you are gone You never looked back, I was your man But I kept arguing, fussing and fighting with you Never realized that each time digging a hole in you I had high demands that came from my childhood Not understanding that those expectations weren't good I didn't handle my part of making you whole Steady tearing you down with unrealistic goals Trapping your efforts in a cage I built Now you truly gone off of my own guilt First and foremost, I wanna apologize for the things I did Looking at the glass half empty created a skid I thought I was the revival you needed in your life But quickly realizing I was more like a termite Eating away at your core It should've never been done Giving you reassurance in love would've kept me number 1 Asking more from you than I put on myself Was a recipe for disaster that shoulda put on the shelf Instead of treating you like my queen All I ever did was tear down your self esteem Rarely listening to your desires and needs Was like expecting a tree without planting the seed Part of being a partner is helping to build you up But I was breaking you down just like a punch to the gut But I was breaking you down just like a punch to the gut All while losing your love and then losing your trust I didn't handle my part of making you whole Steady tearing you down with unrealistic goals Trapping your efforts in a cage I built Now you truly gone off of my own guilt I get it now that I put a lot on you From who your friends were and what you could do Calling to check up all the time Had you looking like a fool Was too overprotective Your friends Said I didn't value you Suffocating your voice and not trusting in your choices Oh I'm sorry baby oh so sorry baby I didn't handle my part of making you whole Steady tearing you down with unrealistic goals Trapping your efforts in a cage I built Now you truly gone off of my own guilt I should've been paying attention Baby I should've been listening But I was so hard headed My Own Guilt
