The Traveller

I crossed a hundred seas and climbed a thousand peaks To find the traveller who only wisdom speaks I braved the elements to catch of glimpse of him In hopes that I would find answers to my questions And then one day as if I stepped on hallowed ground I heard a voice and I knew that him I had found His words made me feel compelled to cast my eyes down He said, "You're on your own You are alone You're on your own" I thought it seemed absurd To pay attention to a traveller's words So I pushed them further, further, further from my mind Tried to forget them and forget that waste of time. But then one day as if I stepped on hallowed ground I heard his words again and remembered what I found I felt ashamed and so I cast my eyes down. I said, "I'm on my own I am alone. I'm on my own" When your back's against the wall And you know that it's your fault You think there's nowhere to go at all On an ocean being tossed Your resolve is going soft You think that no one knows that you are lost But then one day as if I stepped on hallowed ground A thought occurred to me it nearly knocked me down It seemed so simple but to me it was profound No longer on my own I'm not alone Not on my own When your back's against the wall And you know that it's your fault You think there's nowhere to go at all On an ocean being tossed Your resolve is going soft You think that no one knows that you are lost I crossed a hundred seas and climbed a thousand peaks To find the traveller who only wisdom speaks I braved the elements to catch of glimpse of him Only to realize the traveller comes from within
