You wrote me a note on that autumn day After the storm disappeared While it brought some sense to the senseless I knew then that my place wasn't here Oh what did I get myself into How could I have been so naïve I traded the sun for the pull of the moon Not predicting its brilliance might leave So I took to this world unattended With my eyes and my arms open wide And I thought that my heart would protect me But I was standing on black rocks above the rising tide So I dove deep into the dark waters And I studied each current I crossed Because I knew that within there would be beauty And I'd find it no matter the cost And it was there in the moments of love and compassion It was there in religion and unexpected fashion It was there, unapologetic and unrestrained It was all there But it was drowning in pain
