Well I left for California, on a cold September day I knew that I would miss you. I knew I had to go away When I made Oklahoma, and saw the open plains I knew that I would miss you. I knew I was to blame I knew that I would miss you. And nothing, stops the pain When I got to North Dakota. And crossed majestic hills I knew that I would miss you. I knew I always will When I reached San Francisco, and saw that Golden Gate I knew that I would miss you. I knew it was too late I knew that I would miss you. I miss you, every day I left you in Virginia, so cold and in the ground I knew that I would miss you, I knew I couldn't hang around I knew I had to leave that town
