Once upon a time white picket fences looked the same And everyone behind’em used to know each other's names More than strangers, maybe even friends What happened to the way it was back then? Now I couldn’t tell you who the hell lives right next door Eight foot fences, curtains closed, and no one on the porch Busy building walls up all around us Are they to keep me in or keep you out, ‘cause We spin side by side on this ball ‘round the sun Red blood and blue looks the same when it runs What we have in common is bigger than what separates us Can’t we just love our neighbors? We’re all neighbors If you stood face to face with someone you don't understand Would you say the same things that you type out with your hands? We’re all neighbors Momma had a tapestry she hung up on the wall So many different colors, I could never count’em all It needed every thread to paint that picture What makes us think that we'd be any different?
