Weight Of These Shadows

Shadows of my family gather 'round Holding me still pushing me to the ground I swing the hammer hard Smash it down! Nailing my soul to this sorrow I've found As the tides of hope and fear wash over me I hold my gaze on what's in front to see The rear-view burns when I glance back Running from the past down a beaten track And the weight of these shadows they lingers still Holding me captive bending my will I'm lost in the echoes of a life I can't reclaim Held by the ghosts that wear my name In myself I see the boy I once was; lost Never so guilty still I bear your cross Hidden in the shadow of those I loved and feared Shadows grown stretched across these years A strangers skin I wear tight bold and fair Trusted by his friends and family showing care Grieving for the man he may have been Dressed in years of age that these eyes have seen And the weight of these shadows they lingers still Holding me captive bending my will I'm lost in the echoes of a life I can't reclaim Held by the ghosts that wear my name And in the quiet of the night I feel it claw Voices from the past haunt me one and all Perceived to stand tall yet weight surrounds The shades of my life pulling me to the ground As we walk from shadows into the morning light Judging each other by the wrongs and right Paths unclear ahead yet we walk defiantly Rushing into the unknown gallantly? And the weight of these shadows they lingers still But I keep walking forward Bending to my will! Lost in the echoes grasping for my name Facing the ghosts I'll find my flame!
