Marble Halls

I learned to count at an early age to see what we would get If I would sell my doll and eat a bit less I went to school and worked real hard to get a decent job I'd buy a big old house with a yard But our family's monthly benefits they didn't buy me books So I dropped out of the school to work at Luke's Take me up to marble halls Where I won't have to eat Take me down to hell alone If there I'll make ends meet Someone said in this life we all have the same shots But chances are you're born to lose Or chances are you're not I work around the clock to take home some stranger's scraps Embarrassing but I don't get to choose I wanted to become more than my parent's ever did But opportunities just cost too much Take me up to marble halls Where I won't have to eat Take me down to hell alone If there I'll make ends meet Someone said in this life we all have the same shots But chances are you're born to lose Or chances are you're not I still sometimes dream about the house and the yard
