I Would Rather

I would rather be poor Than be rich, and not generous I'd rather have nothing Than have everything except holiness I would rather be sick Than be healthy and self-dependent I'd rather be stupid Than walk with false assurance I choose poor, I choose sick I choose stupid and dependent As long as I get more of Jesus I've been poor, I've been sick All the faith I've learned was worth it Because the less I have The more I fill my life with Jesus I would rather know loss Than have fortune and distraction I'd rather be lonely Than be friends with worldy passion I'd rather be dead Dead to sin, alive in Christ I'd rather be desperate Than let comfort satisfy I choose poor, I choose sick I choose stupid and dependent As long as I get more of Jesus I've been poor, I've been sick All the faith I've learned was worth it Because the less I have The more I fill my life with Jesus
