Love & Loss

Writing a poem that no one can ever read again Finding the courage to start something you know is fated to end Sharing a jacket with someone you know will never return it Heeding the heartbreak but knowing that you'll have to earn it They say it's better to have loved and lost but I don't think that's true 'Cause I don't see a future for me that doesn't involve you And I know that, until it ends, I'll never see Beyond what I've convinced myself that this will be But if I work hard then maybe, for as long as this exists I can appreciate it for what it is Making a friendship bracelet that winds up stronger than the bonds it breaks Or giving and giving until you don't know what's left of you to take Thinking you know yourself so well you know you'll never get over it Then being surprisingly okay when you finally have to let go of it They say it's better to have loved and lost but I'm not sure that's true 'Cause I don't see a future for me that doesn't involve you And I know that, until it ends, I'll never see Beyond what I've convinced myself that this will be But if I work hard then maybe, for as long as this exists I can appreciate it for what it is And I know I'm making this sound easier Than what we all know it to actually be But I'm just so tired of feeling inferior Because I never learned how to leave They say it's better to have loved and lost but I know that's not true 'Cause I can't see a future for me that doesn't involve you And I know that, until it ends, I'll never see Beyond what I've convinced myself that this will be But if I work hard then maybe, for as long as this exists I can appreciate it for what it is
