Brickwork

This is my prayer to you I'm kneeling on the brickwork And the doors are all locked This is my prayer to you I'm staring through the windows But I'm too scared to knock Won't you let me come in Come to where you abide Can't you tell where I've been From the grit in my eyes This is my prayer to you The water's rising slowly But the sky is so blue This is my prayer to you I'm wading where it's shallow And I'm waiting on you Won't you come down to me Come to me and baptize Can't you teach me to see With your spit in my eyes And this is my prayer that I might Care enough to carry all my stuff To all the places where your Grace is sure to be to carry me And all I ask is that I Grasp you when I reach into the dark That's passing over me I'm gasping for your peace To rest my heart This is my prayer to you I'm standing in the doorway Where I can't stand to be This is my prayer to you That flame it flickers quiet And it beckons to me
